Just For You: An Event for Carers

Carers Week is an annual event in June, which highlights the role and importance of unpaid carers in society. We wanted to do something nice specifically for parents/carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) in Haringey, so we held this event, "Just For You"!

Advisers from Carers First spoke about financial support available to carers, and made 1:1 appointment booking with attendees on the day. You can find out more about them, and their events specifically for Haringey carers, on their website: https://www.carersfirst.org.uk/

On the tables there were some colouring-in pages and coloured pencils, so attendees could do some mindful colouring throughout the event.

We didn't want this to just be an informative session; we wanted parents and carers to feel cared for. So, we organised a massage therapist, Santosh, to deliver some hand and shoulder massages for everyone. We had lots of positive feedback about this, so we'll definitely organise this again!

Lunch was the last item on the agenda. We enjoyed some Turkish food from Green Lanes and all ate together. It was a great to sit down and chat with familiar faces, and new ones too!
